At the NANOCON´21 conference Tomáš Cajthaml will open the session D – Monitoring and Toxicity of Nanomaterials by his invited lecture focused on Toxicity of microplastics.


Professional Background:
Tomáš Cajthaml received his MSc. degree in Anatytical Chemistry at the Faculty of Science of the Charles University, Prague (CZ) (1998) and at the same university also his PhD degree in Applied and Landscape Ecology (2002). And by the title DSc. he was awarded by the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic in 2020. In the year 2015 he became a Professor of Environmental Sciences at the Faculty of Science, Charles University, Prague (CZ).

His professional career T. Cajthaml started at the Institute of Microbiology, Czech Academy of Sciences in Prague (1998), where he led the Laboratory of Environmental Biotechnology (from the year 2006). In the period 2014-2020 he was the director of the Institute for Environmental Studies at the Faculty of Science, Charles University, Prague and he is the deputy-director of this institute, now.

Within his pedagogical activities was supervisor or co-supervisor of 6 finished PhD students at the Charles University and the Institute of Chemical Technology, Prague and the Tuscia University, Italy.


Research Interests and main results:
Research of Professor Tomáš Cajthaml is focused on pollution of the environment, expecially on fate, decomposition, and eco-toxicity of organic pollutants, nanomaterials and microplastics. He is also interested in development and optimization of decontamination technologies. He is also focused on environmental forensic eco-toxicology, and environmental microbiology.


Publication activity:
Tomas Cajthaml is author or co-author of >200 peer reviewed papers (>6000 citations); 9 chapters in books, 2 edited books (Advanced Nano-Bio Technologies for Water and Soil Treatment is the last book published by Springer International publishing in 2020);

5 patents, 7 verified technologies, 1 utility model, and more than 100 lectures or posters at scientific conferences; H-index: 44.
