Education and Career Accomplishments:
Carla Cannas graduated in Chemistry at the University of Cagliari (Sardinia/Italy) with a thesis entitled "Synthesis and characterization of Ni-SiO2 nanocomposites" in 1996. Her PhD she obtained in 2003, (thesis entitled "Structural and Magnetic characterization of Fe2O3-SiO2") under the supervision of Prof. Giorgio Piccaluga. Since the year 2014 (to 2019) she had been an Associate Professor of General and Inorganic Chemistry at the University of Cagliari. Since 2020 she is Full Professor in Fundamentals of Chemical sciences and Inorganic Systemy and Chemical Foundations of Technologies.

Prof. Cannas is currently vice-coordinator of the Doctoral Course in Chemical Sciences and Technologies at the University of Cagliary.

Research interests:
Main interests of Carla Cannas are in the field of:

• The chemistry of inorganic materials, with particular reference to the chemical synthesis and the correlations between the structural, compositional, morphological and physical properties (magnetic and optical) or the reactivity (catalytic and sorbent properties) of nanosystems.
• In the broader context of nanotechnologies, she has twenty years of experience both in the bottom-up chemical synthesis of inorganic oxide-based nanocomposites and in their chemical-physical characterization with a multi-technical approach.

Summary of publication activity and awards:
Scientific activity of Prof. Cannas is documented by >170 papers in journals registered by the JCR (ISI Journals); an American patent, two book chapters and about 130 conference communications. She has an H-index of 39 and >4 700 citations on Google Scholar.

She is referee of several journals: Chemistry of Materials (ACS), ACS Nano (ACS), Nanoscale (RSC), Journal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials (Elsevier), Journal of Physical Chemistry (ACS), Journal of Chemical Physics (AIP) , Nanotechnology (IOP), Journal of Nanoparticle Research (Springer), PCCP (RSC), Journal of Materials Chemistry (RSC) and Langmuir (ASC).

Carla Cannas is currently:

• Delegate of the University of Cagliari in the Executive Board of the INSTM Consortium - the National Interuniversity Consortium of Materials Science and Technology, the largest consortium of its kind in Italy
• Scientific Manager of the Research Center for Energy, the Environment and the TErritorio (CREATE Center)
• Member of the Scientific Committee of the Center of Excellence for Environmental Sustainability (CESA)
• Executive Director for Lots of Electron Microscopy of CeSAR (University Service Center for Research).
